Since some of you have asked, here is a play-dough recipe and instructions. It is a third of the large batch that I used to make monthly at my old preschool and it made enough for my son to play with and make tons of pancakes, pizza, and omelets (funny, because being allergic to both dairy and eggs he can't eat any of those things).
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 2 tsps cream of tartar
- 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- a few drops of food coloring
{here is a new, better recipe for playdough}
I made a white batch this time, and usually I only make one color (when the colors blend together and end up as a brownish mush the children can get frustrated). I find that putting the food coloring in the water before adding it to the dry ingredients is the easiest.
- In a medium size saucepan (a thick bottom works best), mix all the ingredients together as best you can, it's not a big deal if there are some lumps.
- Cook over medium heat stirring constantly until it thickens and starts to pull away from the edges of the pan (the last picture on the previous post).
- Let cool on a piece of wax paper until you can handle it.
- Knead a few times until it is the right consistency and store in an airtight container.
Enjoy! Leave me a comment if you need more help, but it's pretty simple.
